We lack words, their meanings and their context,&nbsp;and that\u2019s why&nbsp;we need a bridge between the two sides&nbsp;of the gap, a translator of a sort, who could interpret and convert the language of business into the language of technology.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where a business analyst (BA) comes into action. As a result, the client is better informed about what can be done and how, as well as the team has more peace and time to focus on their work on the product.             <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"o-quote__author\">\n                                        <div class=\"o-quote__author-info\">\n                    <div class=\"o-quote__author-name\">\n                        <div>\n                            \u0141ukasz Suma                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                    <div\n                        class=\"o-quote__author-position\"\n                    >\n                        <div>\n                            Team Leader at Future Processing sharing his experiences of working with a BA                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are we even doing? \u2013<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>requirements<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;engineering<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even a great&nbsp;and visionary&nbsp;software project can fail, if the&nbsp;end product is indeed beautiful and functional, but entirely&nbsp;unfit for purpose.&nbsp;For that reason,&nbsp;one of the most important things to establish,&nbsp;is a business need for every requirement that is&nbsp;coming from the client\u2019s side.&nbsp;In order for both&nbsp;everyone&nbsp;to be&nbsp;content&nbsp;and for the product to be&nbsp;a success,&nbsp;a business analyst&nbsp;tries to&nbsp;<strong>discover not what the&nbsp;business&nbsp;says they&nbsp;WANT, but what they&nbsp;actually&nbsp;NEED<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main challenge of the requirements gathering process is that usually there are&nbsp;various&nbsp;sources from which&nbsp;many&nbsp;small&nbsp;pieces&nbsp;of information come from. Sometimes the versions overlap, sometimes they contradict&nbsp;one another. The analyst\u2019s job is to <strong>fully understand and create a consistent concept of the application, make sure the vision is&nbsp;spread&nbsp;among all of the stakeholders,&nbsp;and that there is a common understanding of every single part of it<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But gathering&nbsp;and organising&nbsp;input&nbsp;is only halfway&nbsp;to success.&nbsp;Then comes dividing&nbsp;the&nbsp;requirements&nbsp;into smaller&nbsp;chunks,&nbsp;adding&nbsp;all details&nbsp;necessary for the team to code and test the functionality,&nbsp;and defining&nbsp;priorities together with the&nbsp;client, so that&nbsp;the development team always deals with the most urgent&nbsp;tasks&nbsp;first.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"b-quotation\">\n    <div class=\"o-quote o-quote--left\">\n        <svg class=\"o-quote__icon\">\n            <use xlink:href=\"#quotation-mark\"><\/use>\n        <\/svg>\n        <div\n            class=\"o-quote__text o-quote__text--italic f-paragraph\"\n        >\n            <div>\n                A BA took most of the responsibility for maintaining the task backlog over from the team. Besides, all that the BA came up with, designed or discussed with the client, was consulted with the team at an early stage. Does it mean that they are really&nbsp;an all-knowing&nbsp;being&nbsp;holding all the answers&nbsp;to the universe? Certainly not!&nbsp;But they&nbsp;know and stay in touch with everyone, so they are your best bet to get the needed info&nbsp;as fast and&nbsp;as&nbsp;reliably as possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;BA\u2019s&nbsp;goal&nbsp;is&nbsp;primarily&nbsp;to understand&nbsp;not only&nbsp;the&nbsp;small section&nbsp;of the software&nbsp;that&nbsp;the team is currently working on, but&nbsp;t<strong>he whole context of the application, all&nbsp;of the business and technological&nbsp;dependencies,&nbsp;and&nbsp;who holds the&nbsp;knowledge about specific parts of the systems and processes<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally,&nbsp;a BA&nbsp;having a broad understanding of the&nbsp;business&nbsp;needs&nbsp;means,&nbsp;that&nbsp;many smaller decisions&nbsp;can be made on a team level without consulting the&nbsp;business&nbsp;side&nbsp;for every single question.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"b-quotation\">\n    <div class=\"o-quote o-quote--left\">\n        <svg class=\"o-quote__icon\">\n            <use xlink:href=\"#quotation-mark\"><\/use>\n        <\/svg>\n        <div\n            class=\"o-quote__text o-quote__text--italic f-paragraph\"\n        >\n            <div>\n                It is primarily analysts who are responsible for communication with the client, setting priorities, creating and describing JIRA tasks, and proposing solutions that will be good both for the client and the development team.
